Balance over time

Projected balance at the selected return rate (nominal dollars). Results above use the return you entered.

How it works

We compound monthly: each month your balance grows by (annual return ÷ 12), then we add your contribution. We run the simulation for up to 100 years and report when you first cross each milestone.

Total you put in (30 years) = starting balance + all recurring contributions over 30 years. Investment gains (30 years) = balance at 30 years minus that total.

Nominal balances are future dollar amounts. If you enter an inflation rate, we also show balances at 10, 20, 30 years in today's dollars—adjusted for inflation so you can compare purchasing power.

FAQ

Are these calculators financial advice?
No. All tools are for educational and estimation purposes only. Always do your own research and consider consulting a financial advisor.
Do you store my data?
No. All calculations run in your browser. We do not collect or store your inputs.
What does "in today's dollars" mean?
When you enter an inflation rate, we show your projected balance at 10, 20, 30 years adjusted for inflation—so you see equivalent purchasing power in today's terms, not raw future dollars.
What is contribution frequency?
How often you add the recurring amount: per month (e.g. $500 every month) or per year (e.g. $6,000 once a year). The calculator compounds monthly in both cases.
What annual return should I use?
For long-term planning, 5–7% is often used for a balanced portfolio. Crypto and stocks can be more volatile. This is only an estimate; actual returns will vary.
